Fashion Week is upon us once again, which means we’ve been busy poring over all the best beauty details from the shows. The joy of Fashion Week is that you never really know what to expect or which trends will catch your eye, but one we’re definitely recreating ASAP is the “sunglass nails” that walked the runway at Diane Von Furstenberg’s first NYFW show in nine (!!) years. If you can’t get enough of glass nails, semi-translucent manis, or jelly nails, sunglass nails are the coolest, most fashion-forward way to sheer it out this season.
The nails were designed by manicurist Miss Pop, who says, “With the glass nail trend taking over, we wanted to give it a more sheer, modern twist.” She used “light layers” of Essie polishes paired with the brand’s Special Effects line to create a delicate, pearly finish, which she says is “effortlessly cool like your favorite pair of sunglasses.” Miss Pop looked to Harry Zankov’s first collection for the beloved brand for inspiration, drawing from the deep browns, vivid greens, and sheer fabrics to create a handful of distinct manicures for the runway. “We’re taking the sheer trend to the next level,” she told Allure backstage.
Instead of dark nails with gemstones like a pair of ‘50s shades or a paparazzi-proof dark black or brown, DVF’s sunglass nails were sheer and soft, like rose-colored glasses or the subtly tinted shades of the 2000s, for example. And the best part? You can definitely DIY these unique sheer nails at home, no NYFW credentials required.
